For this reason, I've found it really helpful to turn to PolitiFact. This Pulitzer-Prize winning project, maintained by the Tampa Bay Times, is aimed at helping you find the truth about politics. Reporters and editors fact-check statements made by people in office as well as supporters of the Democratic and Republican campaigns and rate them on their "Truth-o-Meter," providing you with a level of accuracy for certain claims.
