Shadow and Bone is about a girl named Alina Starkov who spent her life being unseen, unimportant, and ordinary. Alina lives in a nation called Ravka which has been torn into two parts due to the Shadow Fold that is right in the middle of the gap. However, when her best friend and other soldiers are attacked she soon discovers that she is more than ordinary. Alina possess a gift that can possibly save her nation from the monsters that are inside the Fold.
Who I can relate to in the book, Shadow and Bone, is the character David. Just like David I am the type of person who focuses on my work at times to the point where I am oblivious. I can get so caught up in what I am doing that I don’t hear or know when a person is trying to get my attention.
I enjoyed reading Shadow and Bone because it made me wonder who to trust, and wanting to know more about the world the story takes place in. My favorite part of the book is during the ball because so many questions popped up which left me reading page after page. If I could change something in the book it would be how the main character Alina’s personality develops towards the end of the book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about stories that take place in different worlds.
