Edgar Allan Poe was a writer. He wrote books about soon-to-be-dead people. Knowing his past, it is no surprise why he wrote such stories. When he was three, his mom died of tuberculosis. Poe watched her die, making him, his brother Henry, and his sister orphans. He stayed with her and when she died, he still was beside her until a few days later, they took her body. He had nightmares about that.
Poe was then adopted by Fanny and John Allan. Fanny loved him, but John despised him. At age fifteen, Poe’s first girlfriend died of tuberculosis. A few years later, Fanny started coughing up blood. She then died of tuberculosis. After her death, John kicked Poe out. Poe decided to move in with Henry but then
he too died of tuberculosis. Poe then moved in with his aunt, where he met the love of his life, Virginia. They were married, but then Virginia died of tuberculosis.
Poe wrote down his depressing thoughts and made them into poems and stories. He didn’t make much money though. So Poe started drinking. Suddenly, for six days, Poe disappeared without a trace. When he appeared, he was in a bar. His distant relatives found him and dumped him into the hospital, where he stayed for about
two days and died. Some say rabies did him in, while others say it was alcohol poisoning. No one knows for sure how he died.
Even with our modern technology, there is still no cure for rabies. Death would have been almost certain, unless the rabies shot was given BEFORE the symptoms, then there would have been a treatment that lasts twenty-eight days. This treatment is the rabies vaccine. The vaccine stimulates the immune system and it has the dead“rabies bacteria” so your body can come up with the proper defense faster. There is very little chance of surviving rabies without taking the rabies vaccine.
